Cover Letter

Dear Superintendent of Human Resources,

This letter of inquiry is in regards to elementary classroom teaching openings for the 2016-2017 School Year. I believe that my diverse teaching experience and passion for enabling achievement for students of all abilities would be an excellent match for a classroom teaching position in your district. As a new member of the local community, I am very interested to learn about employment opportunities at one of your elementary schools.

This past summer my family moved back to southeast Michigan after living in Asia for the last eight years. My overseas teaching experiences in South Korea, India, and China have provided me with rich opportunities to work with students from very diverse backgrounds. With four years experience as a primary classroom teacher and learning support teacher, as well as two additional years teaching in part-time, volunteer, and substitute positions, I have taught a number of children who were learning English as an additional language, as well as students with learning differences. Working with children of diverse academic and social abilities, I have found that collaboration is the key to meeting the unique needs of individual students. Consequently, I believe it is imperative to form strong relationships with students, families, and other colleagues by fostering a genuine learning community. Collaborating with educators from all over the globe, I've gained insights into multiple practices and frameworks that have influenced my approach to increasing students’ outcomes by encouraging students to become agents of their own learning.

With strong determination to enhance my craft and inspire young learners to reach their dreams, I enrolled in Michigan State University’s Master of Arts in Education program, with concentrations in Special Education and Literacy Education. I plan to graduate in May 2016, and subsequently expect to receive a State of Michigan Professional Education Certificate for elementary education at the same time. My recent graduate studies augment my previous State of Michigan Provisional Teaching Certificate with endorsements in elementary mathematics and social studies.

Now that I have returned home to Michigan and I am about to obtain my master’s degree, I look forward to combining my diverse experience and newly acquired knowledge to make a difference with young learners as an elementary classroom teacher. At your earliest convenience, I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you for an interview. I have attached my resume for your information. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Janine Baur
